Almost 47,000 ‘online shopping’ appointments booked in 2 days

Co-ops top all market reservations

KUWAIT CITY, June 6: Ministry of Commerce and Industry revealed a total of 46,950 electronic shopping reservations were made two days ago via the cooperative societies’ appointment system, parallel markets, catering branches, and the vegetables and fish markets which 27,686 people patronized.

In a statement, the ministry said the cooperative societies recorded 29,284 bookings with 54 percent attendance (15,832), while the total reservations of the parallel markets reached 23,981 with 34 percent attendance (8,054).

It pointed out that the reservations of catering branches amounted to 7,652 with 41 percent attendance (3152), while the fish and vegetables markets recorded 4,033 reservations with 16 percent attendance (648). It indicated having received 102 calls via hotline135 and 8 complaints through control centers located in the governorates.

It revealed that inspection teams, through their regular rounds, conducted checks and inspection on 134 cooperative societies, as well as parallel markets and vegetable stalls to determine their commitment to regulations and standards.

It pointed out that inspection teams issued 13 citations against violating shops and closed 4 commercial stores that were proven to violate the decisions, regulations and precautionary measures related to fighting the coronavirus.

The ministry stated that it monitored 79 ration branches to facilitate sales and monitor the progress of receiving foodstuffs by those who are entitled to them, in addition to which 40 transactions were received to issue and renew the ration card.
