8714 Indians Infected By Coronavirus In Kuwait

Kuwait statistics showed that 8714 cases of coronavirus were among the Indian community out of 31,131 total cases in the country, followed by 7074 Kuwaiti citizens, 5343 Egyptian residents and 3588, Bangladesh residents.

Indian community in Kuwait is the largest expatriate community in Kuwait, followed by Egyptians and Filipino community.

All the new cases were in contact with previously infected people or are being investigated for sources of infection, the Health Ministry’s spokesman Dr. Abdullah Al Sanad said in a media update.

Coronavirus India Update: India registered its highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases for the fifth consecutive day on Sunday, with 9,971 new infections taking the country’s tally to 2,46,628, while the death toll rose to 6,929, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Maharashtra with 82,968 cases is the worst-affected state by the disease, followed by Tamil Nadu with 30,152 cases. The tally of COVID-19 positive cases in the national capital stands at 27,654 with 761 deaths recorded in New Delhi so far and Gujarat has reported 19,592 positive so far.

Deaths in India per lakh population (0.49) are much lower than the world average of 5.17 and are the lowest among countries that have eased lock down such as Germany (10.35), Italy (55.78), the UK (59.62) and Spain (58.06), as per a WHO situation report cited by the Health Ministry.

Strategies, preventive measures and behavioral changes have to be designed and implemented by policymakers and society to ensure the safety of those who are at high risk.

Going forward, the government policies in ensuring the safety of those at high risk should be guided by evidence. Behavioural attributes are significant in the case of a pandemic like this. Wearing a mask and maintaining physical distancing, while ensuring social cohesion, is imperative to ensure the physical and mental health of the elderly.
