Doubt on cloth masks
KUWAIT CITY, June 9: Respiratory diseases specialist Dr Zaid Al-Azmi said the results of new studies revealed that fabric masks are not as effective as N95 masks in preventing the transmission of viruses.
Al-Azmi disclosed there is limited evidence on the effectiveness of cloth masks, as some studies indicate it is better to use other types of masks. In case there is no option but to wear cloth masks, Al-Azmi stressed the need to clean the masks thoroughly before re-using them.
He said regular cleaning materials should be used in cleaning cloth masks at normal temperature. He added the masks should be removed immediately after caring for the patient and the hands should be washed immediately after removing the mask.
