EU suspends authorization of two Pakistani airlines

BRUSSELS, June 30: The European Union Aviation Safety Agency Tuesday suspended the Third Country Operator authorization of two Pakistan airlines: PAKISTAN INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES CORPORATION LIMITED (PIA) and VISION AIR INTERNATIONAL (PVT) LIMITED with effect from tomorrow July 1.

This decision was taken due to concerns about the capability of competent authorities to ensure that Pakistani air operators are in compliance with applicable international standards at all times, a spokesperson for the European Commission told journalists in Brussels.

The EU decision follows the recent investigation reported in the Pakistani Parliament which revealed that a large share of pilot licenses issued in Pakistan are invalid, noted the spokesperson speaking on condition of anonymity. (KUNA)
