UN mourns loss of late Amir

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 14: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Wednesday sent a cable of appreciation to UN Secretary- General Antonio Guterres for his kind speech during the special session to mourn the loss of the late Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Tuesday. In his cable, His Highness the Amir thanked the Secretary-General for his kind words, which reflected the depth of his appreciation and great respect for His Highness the late Amir.

His Highness the Amir hailed Guterres’ words regarding His Highness the late Amir outstanding contributions in support of UN activities in various fields, in particular, his leadership in mobilizing support to alleviate the suffering of refugees and those afflicted by natural disaster, wars and crises. Furthermore, His Highness the Amir reaffirmed Kuwait’s permanent support to help the organization in being more capable and efficient to face the challenges and dangers that threaten the world.

His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah sent similar cables. His Highness the Amir also on Wednesday sent a cable to Volkan Bozkir, congratulating him on his election as President of the United Nations General Assembly.

In the cable, His Highness the Amir wished Bozkir all success in his new post, as His Highness expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation for his generous initiative to hold a special session on Tuesday, Oct 13, 2020, to mourn His Highness the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. His Highness the Amir hailed Bozkir’s words regarding His Highness the late Amir outstanding contributions in supporting the UN activities in various fields and in particular his leadership role in mobilizing support to alleviate the suffering of refugees and those afflicted by natural disasters, wars and crises. His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah sent similar cables.

The State of Kuwait has restated its unyielding and firm positions on the issues of disarmament and international security by stressing that it is not possible to attain world peace and security unless weapons proliferation is halted. The remark was made by Second Secretary of Kuwait’s Diplomatic Mission at the UN Ibrahim Al-Dai before the First Committee of the UN General Assembly. (KUNA)
