Eleven of those who registered on Wednesday applied for the First Constituency, six in the Second Constituency, 11 in the Third Constituency and five in the Fifth Constituency. No one registered in the Fourth Constituency.

Former MP Salah Khursheed and former Olympic athlete Fehaid Al Deehani were among those who registered on Wednesday. Al-Deehani is a Kuwaiti officer and shooter who won the first gold medal for Kuwait in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

At the end of the registration period, the total number of candidates reached 395 including 31 women. Only one withdrew his candidacy – Marzouq Fahd Al- Mutairi from the Fourth Constituency.

The final breakdown of candidates per constituency is as follows: 72 men and 10 women in the First Constituency, 57 men and six women in the Second Constituency, 75 men and 10 women in the Third Constituency, 91 men in the Fourth Constituency, and 69 men and five women in the Fifth Constituency.

Director of Elections Registration Center Colonel Salah Al-Shatti said they are currently reviewing the applications and no decision has been taken to dismiss any of the candidates so far. On the other hand, former chairman of the parliamentary Legislative Affairs Committee Khalid Al- Shatti confirmed that the committee revised the text of the law on addressing the lopsided demographic structure issue. He said the law will be referred to the government soon to pave way for the issuance of the executive decree within one year.

He added that the law mandates the government to issue regulations and decisions to control the number of expatriates, specify the maximum number for every nationality and submit annual reports in this regard to the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, former MP Saadoun Hammad denied the rumors that his name was deleted from the electoral list. He asserted some candidates, who are sure about their failure in the elections, are the sources of such a rumor. He already asked his lawyer to follow up the issue and sue those behind the fake accounts which spread the rumor. Moreover, former MP Ahmed Al-Fadl criticized the recommendation of Health Minister Dr Bassel Al- Sabah regarding the partial curfew.
