Found guilty in Kuwait for human trafficking and money laundering

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 23: At the end of a deliberation session, the Bangladeshi parliament decided to drop the membership of one of the parliamentarians Muhammad Shahid Islam (known as ‘Kazi Papul’), based on the prison sentence issued against him by the Kuwaiti judiciary on January 28, reports Al-Rai daily. Kazi Papul was found guilty by a court in Kuwaiti of human trafficking and money laundering in the lawsuit known as ‘Case of the Bangladeshi MP’.

The Secretary of Bangladesh Parliament, Zafar Ahmed Khan, announced that a decision had been officially taken to declare the “Kazi Papul” seat vacant in the Laxmibor-2 constituency as of the date of the decision, which indicates, in the context of its justifications, that the removal of the MP was based on Article No. 66 of the Bangladeshi Constitution.

For his part, “Humayun Kabir Khandker”, who is the Secretary of the Supreme Elections Commission in Bangladesh, said that the commission had received an official copy of the decision to revoke the membership of the convicted deputy, indicating that the commission would proceed to take appropriate measures in accordance with the stipulations of the law, including preparing for elections within 90 days to fill the seat that has become vacant.

Meanwhile another accused who was absconding Nawaf Al-Mutairi
who was named in the case, police managed to arrest him in Kabad area.
