MoE ‘measures’ for safe return to schools issued
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 29: The Ministry of Education has specified steps that the administrations of schools must take in relation to the maintenance of buildings to guarantee the students’ safe return to schools, reports Al-Anba daily. The daily obtained a copy of the circular that Assistant Undersecretary for Public Education Osama Al-Sultan issued to the educational districts stating: “With reference to the letter of the assistant undersecretary for Educational Facilities and Planning dated Aug 11, 2021 reference number 485142 regarding the need to take certain measures related to the maintenance of buildings in schools; the following should be carried out:
■ Clean surfaces and remove dust, weeds and waste, especially around water drains, to prevent the accumulation of water and mud.
■ Remove dust and dirt using hand-held vacuum cleaners before turning on the air-conditioning units, instead of using firefighting water hoses.
■ Clean water tanks and repair buoys to prevent water leakage.
■ Tightly close the doors and windows in air-conditioned places to prevent the leakage of cool air and for the compressor to continue functioning without the need to dismantle it, which could lead to equipment damage and inefficiency.
■ Do not wash rubber floors and parquet floors.
■ Do not use the electricity sockets for operating more than one electrical device, as it could cause power outage and damages.
■ Do not store any materials or devices in the rooms designated for electrical panels, especially the rooms for the main panels.
■ Follow security and safety procedures or any step aimed at ensuring the safety of students and workers all the time, especially during emergencies. In another development, according to reliable sources, the State Audit Bureau has asked the Ministry of Finance to re-present the draft contract for the operation and maintenance of some state-owned facilities, in the form of public private partnership projects, before proceeding with signing the management contract for those facilities with the Public Facilities Management Company for a period of 20 years, reports Al-Anba daily.
