Bangladesh Ambassador’s Message

Assalamu Alaikum

Md. Ashikuzzaman

26 March is the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh. This year the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh bears special significance because we are observing this historic day in the extended celebration of “Mujib Year”, the birth centenary of our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman and also the Golden Jubilee of our Independence.

On this auspicious occasion of Independence and National Day of Bangladesh, I on my own behalf and on behalf of all my colleagues wish to convey our heartfelt greetings and warm felicitations to you all and to our nationals living in Kuwait and Yemen.

On this historic day, I express my deep gratitude to the Amir, His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the government and the people of the State of Kuwait for their continued support to our nationals living in Kuwait.

The Independence of Bangladesh was achieved through a political struggle of long 23 years. It started with the language movement of 1952 followed by United Front Election of 1954, Education Movement of 1962, Six Points Movement of 1966, Mass Movement of 1969, Election of 1970 and finally a war of independence in the year of 1971 under the leadership of our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

51 years back, the Greatest Bengali of all times and Father of our Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman proclaimed independence of Bangladesh in the early hours of 26 March 1971. People from all walks of life responded to his clarion call, participated in the Liberation War and achieved victory on the 16 December 1971 to give us an independent Bangladesh. The 26 March is a glorious day in our national life and the day of earning self-identity.

On this historic day, I remember with profound respect the architect of our independent Bangladesh, Father of our Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. I pay my deep homage to our four national leaders, all the valiant freedom fighters, the 3 million martyrs, 200 thousand women who made supreme sacrifices and presented us the independent Bangladesh. I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to all those foreign countries and nationals in particular our trusted friendly country India who contributed to our War of Liberation both morally and physically in achieving our victory.

In this historic day let me pay my heartfelt homage to those members of Indian Armed Forces who also made supreme sacrifices in our liberation war. All of their contribution to the history of our Independence would be written in golden letters forever.

Bangladesh and State of Kuwait enjoys a deep and historic tie of friendship and brotherhood. The people of Bangladesh will remain ever grateful to Kuwait as Kuwait is the first Gulf country who recognized Bangladesh after its independence.

Since then the two countries maintained continued and sustained strategic connectivity at diplomatic, economic and cultural affairs. With the passage of time, the relation has been further developed and strengthened in every sector. Bangladesh became a shared partner of Kuwait against foreign aggression and in struggle of liberation of Kuwait in 1991. Since 1991 till to date Bangladesh Military contingent in Kuwait consists of more than 5000 members have been contributing effectively in every arena under Operation Kuwait Punorgothon.

State of Kuwait is a development partner of Bangladesh through Kuwait Fund and other agencies. We are very much grateful to the government of Kuwait for providing support to the Bangladeshi people living in Kuwait during the hard time of Covid-19 pandemic and also for taking all of us in vaccination program. We also sent our Army Medical Team to Kuwait during pandemic as a symbol of friendship and mutual cooperation.

The government of Bangladesh is committed to further strengthening bilateral relations with Kuwait in every domain. I firmly believe that under the dynamic leadership of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah and visionary leadership of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina, the bilateral relationship between two friendly countries will reach to a new height.

Bangabandhu always cherished a dream of building a happy and prosperous country along with attaining political emancipation. The present government under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina has been rendering untiring efforts in materializing that dream of Bangabandhu.

Today, Bangladesh is moving towards the highway of development at an inexorable pace. We have achieved enormous success in various areas of socio-economic development including poverty alleviation, education, health, human resource development, women empowerment, reduction of child and maternal mortality rates and increase in average life expectancy. Per capita income has tripled over the past decade.

All the mega development projects including metro rail, karnaphuli Tunnel, Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, construction of Deep Sea Port projects are progressing uninterruptedly and the Padma Multipurpose Bridge is now completely visible and waiting for inauguration in June 2022. In various indicators of economic and social development, Bangladesh has been able to surpass many countries in the world.

Despite the negative impact of the corona pandemic on the world economy, due to timely and courageous steps taken by Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the government has been able to maintain the economic growth by countering the effects of corona. Huge amount of remittances sent by the expatriates Bangladeshis has made an important contribution to keep the wheel of economy rolling.

Bangladesh has already elevated from a least developed country to a developing country. With the continuation of development process, Bangladesh will turn into a developed and prosperous country in the world by 2041, Insha Allah. The government has been consistent in upholding our foreign policy “Friendship to all, malice towards none” as enunciated by the Father of the Nation.

Our achievement in the international arena, including the establishment of world peace, is also commendable. We are happy to inform you that at present Bangladesh is the largest troops contributing countries in the world under Blue Helmet in United Nations Peace keeping mission.

More than 6,500 members of Bangladesh Armed Forces and Bangladesh Police are deployed in Republic of South Sudan, Abyei Area (Special Administrative Area between Republic of Sudan and Republic of South Sudan), Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Mali, Central African Republic, Western Shahara and Republic of Lebanon. Constitutionally we are obliged to put our best efforts to maintain peace and stability across the globe.

Despite being a densely populated country, Bangladesh has set a unique example of humanity in the world by sheltering millions of Rohingyas, the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals who have been tortured and forcibly deported from Myanmar.

Bangladesh believes in a peaceful solution to this problem. We are thankful to the government of the State of Kuwait for their wholehearted support in this humanitarian issue. We call upon the United Nations and the international community, including Myanmar, to take early and effective measures for permanent solution to this problem and returning back all to their home land Myanmar with dignity, safety and security.

In this historic day, I call upon all my Bangladeshi people living in Kuwait to contribute to their maximum in making Bangladesh “Sonar Bangla”, Golden Bengal as dreamt by our Father of the Nation. With the joint efforts of all, may our beloved motherland become a developed country free from hunger and poverty, this is my expectation on the great Independence and National Day.

Again, on this auspicious occasion, I express my deep gratitude to the Amir, His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah, the government and the people of the State of Kuwait for their continued support to the people of Bangladesh. May the Almighty bless us all. May Bangladesh- Kuwait friendship live forever.
