Unintentional shooting: 2-year-old hurt by 4-year-old in Minnesota
WASHINGTON, Oct 18, (Agencies): Authorities in Minnesota are currently conducting an investigation into a shooting incident that resulted in a 2-year-old child being injured. The incident, which is believed to have been accidental, occurred over the weekend, and it is reported that a 4-year-old child accidentally discharged a loaded firearm at their sibling.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the situation shortly before 10:30 am on Sunday, following a call made from a vehicle located in the 1300 block of 130th Ave, as reported.
According to multiple sources, the 4-year-old apparently came across the firearm in the backseat of the vehicle, leading to the accidental shooting of their younger sibling. The driver of the vehicle was en route to Fairmount to seek medical assistance for the injured child when authorities were informed about the incident.
In an official news release from the sheriff’s office, it was mentioned that deputies met the vehicle in the vicinity of the 1800 block of 120th Street, where they attempted to provide immediate assistance before arranging for the child’s airlift to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Reports from MPR News indicate that the 2-year-old was seated in the backseat alongside the older child when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Martin County Chief Deputy Corey Klanderud, speaking with KARE 11, confirmed that the initial call for help came from the children’s parents but did not specify whether the loaded firearm belonged to the adult.
As of Tuesday morning, there had been no updates on the injured child’s condition. If criminal charges are pursued, they will be handled by the Martin County Attorney’s Office. No further information was available at the time.
