Chicago man retires immediately after winning $1 Million in scratch-off lottery
WASHINGTON, Nov 23, (Agencies): A Chicago man decided to cap off his career immediately upon discovering he had won a staggering $1 million from a scratch ticket just before the holidays. The 68-year-old industrial mechanic, known as “Mr M,” recently acquired the fortuitous $10 ticket at Harlem Food and Liquors in Harwood Heights, according to Illinois lottery officials.
Expressing a strong intuition about the ticket, Mr M stated, “I had a good gut feeling as soon as I saw it. I chose to take a chance and buy it, and boy, am I glad I did.”
Kaushik Patel, an employee at Harlem Food, revealed that Mr M is a regular customer and happened to purchase the very last 50X Payout ticket in their machine. Patel shared, “He then came back the next day and said, ‘Hey buddy, I got a million-dollar win from you!’ He was so happy, and smiling so big – it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.”
Following his significant win, Mr M promptly decided to retire, as announced by lottery officials. He expressed, “I was going to retire next year – but now I don’t have to wait!” It’s time I focus on what really matters — my family.”
In addition to his early retirement, Mr M has plans to move closer to his children, aiming to be more actively involved in their lives. The generous winner also looks forward to spoiling his grandchildren, sharing, “I’m going to buy a condo near my kids and trade in my car for a pick-up truck to help out my daughter who is always paying delivery fees for things. I can now be her delivery man, and I won’t charge her a penny.”
