MANILA, Philippines, Nov 26, (Agencies): Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto rallied for a collective effort to maintain the cleanliness of the Pasig River during the unveiling of Pineda Park and Pineda Creek on Nov 25.

The inauguration of the enhanced park and creek at Barangay Pineda in Pasig City was organized as a community initiative by the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) Pasig Chapter, known as “Tindig para sa Ilog Pasig.”

Aligned with the Philippine Architectural Festival and the commemoration of the 450th anniversary of Pasig City, the UAP is committed to advancing an “adopt-a-creek” project with the goal of purifying the currents of the Pasig River.

Addressing the participants, Mayor Sotto emphasized the ongoing efforts to beautify the Pasig River and neighboring waterways. He appreciated the significant improvement in the river’s cleanliness compared to past decades and stressed the importance of a collaborative approach.

“This is a team effort. Let us unite to enhance the beauty of nature, to make it even more vibrant. Each one of us has something to contribute, whether big or small. Let’s not forget that,” he urged.

Approximately 600 participants, including members of the Pasig community, architects, students from various universities, and representatives from private sectors, attended the event. Activities such as planting green walls along the creek and participating in the Pasig River Cleanup were part of the day’s agenda.

During the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Sotto was accompanied by UAP Pasig Chapter National President Ar Richard Garcia, Councilor Francis “Kiko” Rustia, and Chairman Engr Francisco De Leon.

Councilor Rustia expressed gratitude to the UAP for collaborating with the city, emphasizing their valuable contribution to improving Pasig’s environmental programs. He highlighted the importance of pocket parks in residents enhancing mental health and announced plans for the creation of more green parks in partnership with the UAP throughout the city.
