8-hour Texas terror: 6 lives lost, 3 injured, and a city gripped by tragedy

Attacks in 2 Texas cities leave 6 dead, and 2 officers wounded; suspect in custody.

TEXAS, Dec 6: In a tragic series of events spanning approximately eight hours on Tuesday, six individuals lost their lives, while two police officers and another person sustained injuries in separate attacks in Austin and San Antonio, Texas. The authorities have a suspect in custody.

During a press conference early Wednesday, Interim Austin Police Chief Robin Henderson detailed the incidents. Officers responding to a burglary call confronted an individual in a home's backyard on Tuesday evening. An exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in one officer sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled, later crashing the vehicle but was apprehended without gunshot wounds. Two apparent homicide victims were discovered in the residence, leading to the suspect being charged with capital murder, with additional charges expected.

In another incident just before noon, Austin police received calls about a double homicide involving a man and a woman in a different house. Around an hour earlier, an Austin Independent School District police officer was shot in the leg while patrolling Northeast Early College High School, leading to the cancellation of Wednesday classes. Additionally, a bicyclist was shot just before 5 pm, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar revealed in a late-night briefing that San Antonio authorities were informed by Austin counterparts about a potentially life-threatening incident in San Antonio. Deputies discovered the bodies of two individuals in a home, indicating these slayings occurred prior to the Austin incidents. Salazar described the scene as “pretty grisly,” with the bodies likely moved and found against a door in a small room.

The suspect in Austin, a man in his thirties, had connections to the San Antonio residence, although the precise nature of these ties remains clear. Investigators concluded that all the incidents were linked after the final one occurred, emphasizing the complexity of the tragic events.
