Do not hesitate to call Fire Department in emergency situations: Al-Gharib

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 29: The General Fire Force issued a call to all campers, urging them to exercise caution, adopt preventive measures, and adhere to safety protocols throughout their camping duration. In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Brigadier General Muhammad Al-Gharib, the Director of the Public Relations and Media Department, emphasized the importance of placing the coal burner outside the tent and closing both the electricity generator and all electrical appliances before retiring for the night.

During the camping period, Brigadier General Al-Gharib underscored the essential practice of placing burning stoves, firewood, or charcoal exclusively outside tents to avert the risk of fires or suffocation caused by toxic carbon monoxide gas — a potentially fatal outcome when windows and doors are sealed shut.

Campers were further advised to steer clear of openings and ground cracks that could serve as shelters for insects, rodents, and poisonous reptiles. The camping site must be kept clean, devoid of dry grass to mitigate fire hazards, and located at a safe distance from electricity towers. Emphasizing the importance of intact electrical wires to prevent exposure and potential short circuits, Al-Gharib urged the secure placement of gas cylinders outside kitchen tents, tightly sealed after cooking.

For those on land excursions, he recommended setting up tents against the wind’s direction to prevent airborne debris, choosing elevated locations to avoid being swept away by rain-induced torrents, and maintaining a minimum distance of 6 meters between tents to impede the spread of fire in case of an outbreak. In case of emergencies, Al-Gharib urged everyone to promptly dial the emergency phone number 112 for assistance.
