Transfer Talk: Conor Gallagher’s Future, Arsenal’s Business, and More

Good morning and welcome to Good Morning Transfers! We’ve got a packed show for you today, with all the latest transfer news and gossip from the world of football.

Conor Gallagher’s Future

We start with the future of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, who has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid. The 24-year-old has rejected a new contract offer from Chelsea and is now considering his options. We spoke to Dan Khan and Sam Asik about the situation, and whether Gallagher will end up leaving Chelsea for Spain.

"I think it does suit him," said Dan. "When you look at the way Atletico Madrid play and the way Diego Simeone plays his football, I think it’s a match made in heaven. Conor Gallagher is a midfielder who’s almost like an old-school box-to-box midfielder. He can score goals, he can get involved in play as well."

Sam added: "Chelsea have tried to make him stay, but I think he’s got a bit of a dilemma on his hands. He’s been linked with a few clubs now, and he’s got to decide what’s best for him. I think he’ll be looking for first-team football, and if he can’t get that at Chelsea, then maybe a move to Atletico Madrid is the way to go."

Arsenal’s Business

We also discussed Arsenal’s transfer business, with the Gunners linked with a move for Spanish midfielder Mikel Marino. The 28-year-old has been impressing in La Liga and could be the answer to Arsenal’s midfield problems.

"I think he’s a very different player to the one we saw in Newcastle when he was younger," said Dan. "He’s 28 now, he’s in the Spain national side, and he’s got eight goals and five assists in his game. I think he’s got the quality and experience to fit in with Arsenal’s midfield."

Sam added: "I think Arsenal are smart to be looking at players like Marino, who can play in different positions. They’ve got a lot of depth in their squad, but they might struggle with squad depth and quality towards the end of the season. Marino could be the answer to that."

Ivan Toney’s Future

Finally, we touched on the future of Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who has been linked with a move to a Champions League club. Toney has made it clear that he wants to play at the top level, but Brentford are reluctant to sell.

"I think the question is whether Toney can wait for the right move," said Dan. "He’s made it clear what he wants, but Brentford might not be willing to sell. It’s a tough one, because Toney has got the quality to play at the top level, but he’s also got a lot of confidence and personality."

Sam added: "I think the price will be the sticking point. Toney is a valuable player, but if Brentford are holding out for a big fee, then that could be a problem. We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but it’s an interesting situation."

That’s all for today’s show. We’ll be back tomorrow with more transfer news and gossip. Thanks for joining us!
