A Leader Born of the Middle Class: Finding a Partner to Build a Brighter Future
Since announcing my candidacy, I have been on a mission to find a partner who shares my vision of unity, progress, and justice for all. That partner is none other than Governor Tim Walt of Minnesota. Today, I have the pleasure of introducing him to the fine people of Pennsylvania, and in just 91 days, America will get to know him as Vice President of the United States.
A Life of Service and Leadership
Few people know Tim Walt as well as I do, and I can attest to his exceptional qualities as a leader. Throughout his life, Tim has demonstrated dedication to public service, teaching, and fighting for the middle class. As Governor of Minnesota, he has worked tirelessly to better the lives of his constituents, and now, he is ready to take his talent and experience to the national stage as Vice President.
Before entering politics, Tim Walt was a teacher, high school football coach, and a proud father. He and his wife, Gwen, made the bold decision to leave their hometown in Nebraska and start anew in rural Minnesota. Tim taught social studies, while Gwen taught English, and together, they coached the high school football team. There, Tim instilled a sense of purpose and belonging in his students, many of whom had never seen success before. His team achieved the unthinkable, going from winless to state champions.
A Catalyst for Change
One of the stories that stands out about Tim’s time as a teacher and coach is his support for a student who was facing bullying and discrimination due to being openly gay. Tim became a faculty advisor for the school’s Gay-Straight Alliance, providing a safe haven for students who felt marginalized. His involvement sent a powerful message to the entire student body, and his students proudly voted him the "most inspiring faculty member." This is the kind of leader that makes a difference in people’s lives, a leader who inspires hope and belonging in those who need it most.
What Kind of Vice President Will Coach Walt Be?
As President, I know that Tim Walt will use his unique blend of leadership skills, policy expertise, and personal experience to benefit the American people. He will be a force for unity, working tirelessly to elevate the voices of the middle class, rural communities, and marginalized groups. And, as Vice President, Tim will be a trusted advisor, a skillful communicator, and a champion of justice and equality.
