Olympic Dreams Realized: Cat’s Journey to Gold
Tired but triumphant, Cat reflects on her journey to winning her first Olympic medal. The exhaustion is palpable, but the joy and relief are undeniable.
From Heartbreak to Redemption
Cat’s path to the top was not without its setbacks. A post-Tokyo injury, a disappointing 2022 season, and a lingering doubt crept in. "It seemed like it was going to be a bit over, probably not going to happen for me," she admits. But Cat’s team, her family, and her own resilience kept her going. "Thanks to my team, thanks to the people who believed in me… we believed and it came true."
The Moment of Truth
The journey to the podium was not without its challenges. Cat faced intense pressure, but she remained calm and focused. "I feel like I’ve been through a lot, and I understand a good moment when it happens… and being sort of conscious that this is a good moment and I should feel grateful for it." The result? A stunning high jump of over 40 meters, surpassing even her own expectations.
A Dream Realized
When asked what she would have told herself three years ago, Cat confesses, "I wouldn’t have believed it at all. I would have been like, ‘Absolutely not, you’re done.’" But Cat’s hard work, determination, and unwavering support from her loved ones paid off. "This just means that we were right to dream about it," she says with a smile.
The Next Chapter
As Cat looks to the future, she’s not thinking about the next four years, but about the longevity she now has in her career. "I can see myself being competitive for a longer time than I ever thought was possible." And as she reflects on her journey, Cat knows that her mom, her rock, will be proud of her no matter what. "She would have been proud of me if I finished last, fourth, or first… it’s really, really special to have that unwavering support from her."
A Moment to Cherish
As Cat takes a well-deserved rest, she knows that this moment will stay with her forever. "It feels like the world’s been watching me for the past few years… I feel like I’m genuinely happy and I was prepared for that." And as she gazes out at the world, Cat knows that her Olympic medal is a testament to the power of perseverance and the unwavering support of those who believe in her.
