Paving the Way for Victory: Paralympian Powerhouse Prepares for Paris Gold

As the world’s top Paralympic athletes gear up for the Paris 2024 games, one remarkable individual is already on the radar – Paralympian powerhouse, Paralympics GB. Having taken home Olympic gold in Tokyo, he’s now aiming for another gold medal in the Jav-13 classification. We caught up with him at his home in Hertford to see how he prepares for the games, and to get a glimpse of his latest brewing project – Paris Gold.

A Passion for Beer-Making

When Paralympics GB isn’t on the throwing line, he’s a man with a passion for beer-making. By day, he’s a Javelin thrower; by night or on weekends, he’s a brew master. His latest creation, Paris Gold, is a special beer that’s sure to become the unofficial party beer for Paralympic athletes celebrating their wins in Paris. We watched as he carefully selected hops for the brew, reminiscing about his previous success with Tokyo Gold.

From Tokyo to Paris

In 2019, Paralympics GB received the unexpected news that his eyesight qualified him for the Paralympic games. With a small window of time to train, he pushed through injuries and setbacks to become the new Paralympic record holder. Tokyo Gold, a beer that commemorated his Tokyo win, became an instant hit among his fellow athletes.

The Impact of Eyesight

We asked him about the unique challenges of throwing a Javelin with impaired eyesight. "There was one moment when I was in Dubai and I came down to throw, and as I threw, I was actually outside the runway. It was like learning how to compete again." His reliance on instinct and trust in his technique is impressive, and we can only imagine the concentration required to excel at the highest level.

Setting Sights on the Future

When asked about breaking the world record, he replied, "I don’t feel like it’s not too far off. Maybe getting towards my previous personal best of 7.75 M would be amazing." That achievement would cement his status as one of the top Paralympic throwers in the world.

The Journey to Paris

As we watched the finishing touches being put on the Paris Gold brew, Paralympics GB shared his hopes and aims for the Paris games. "Let’s hope I can fulfill the name of the beer, right? So, Paris Gold that’s what we’re going for. But for me, I’m really hoping to get that world record… Gold medal absolutely." We couldn’t help but toast to a successful campaign in Paris.

With the power of his passion, his incredible eyesight, and his unrelenting determination, Paralympics GB is a force to be reckoned with on the global stage. As the Paris 2024 games approach, one thing is clear – this remarkable athlete will stop at nothing to bring home that coveted gold medal.
