Inspiring Tale of Perseverance: Amy Hughes Completes 53 Ultra Marathons in 53 Days

Amy Hughes, 53, has achieved an incredible feat, completing 53 ultra-marathons in 53 days in Manchester on Saturday. That’s a total of 289 km and 1,745 miles, running for approximately 6 hours and 30 minutes a day. Amy joins us in the studio to discuss her remarkable achievement.

The Journey Begins

When asked how she was feeling, Amy surprisingly revealed, "I feel better actually. I finished on Saturday, and my knees are starting to tell me I’ve run a lot… but yeah, I got lucky with the weather."

Amy’s journey was filled with challenges, including 2 days of rain and blisters, but the biggest test was being away from her 3-year-old daughter. She notes, "There were a lot of tough moments… but I was really lucky with the weather… [and] messages from people saying I’d inspired them to start running or to move."

Raising Awareness for Mental Health Charity Big Mose

Amy’s run was in aid of the mental health charity Big Mose, to which she received countless messages from people sharing their struggles and stories. "Looking back on those messages helped me stay motivated… being able to share my own story and help others really kept me going."

Amy’s journey was also deeply personal, as she aims to raise awareness about the importance of mental health conversations. "I struggled with an eating disorder when I was younger… sharing my story has been a real relief, and I hope it can help others do the same."

Lessons Learned and Future Ambitions

Amy’s support system, including her family and partner, were key to her success. She notes, "My partner was really supportive… even though he got the ‘short straw’ and took care of our 3-year-old and dog during my run."

Amy already has her sights set on future challenges, saying, "I’m hoping to raise £53,000 throughout this challenge… my family are saying ‘is this it now? Rest now?’ But I know there’ll be something new coming up."

Commendation and Inspiration

We commend Amy on her incredible achievement and wish her the best in reaching her fundraising target. Her selfless act has undoubtedly inspired countless people to take steps towards improving their mental health and wellbeing.
