“It's my burden to carry” | Ange Postecoglou reflects on defeat to Arsenal
Set Pieces: A Misconception
As a team, we’ve worked tirelessly on set pieces, just like we do with every other aspect of our game. It’s a misconception that I don’t care about them, and it’s a narrative that can be perpetuated for ages. We understand that set pieces are a threat, and for the most part, we handled them well today. However, we did switch off for one occasion, and we paid the price. But that’s the beauty of football – we learn from our mistakes and move on.
The Bigger Picture
For me, there’s a bigger picture at play here. It’s not just about the final details of getting to where we want to be. I’ve always said that for me, there’s more to it than that. We’re a team that’s progressing in many areas, and with that progress comes new challenges and new things to overcome. As I look at the four games in isolation this year, our football has been more consistent and compelling than it was during the first four games last year. However, the results don’t reflect that.
The Need for Improvement
While we’ve made progress in certain areas, there are still other areas where we need to improve. That’s my job to identify those gaps and fill them as quickly as possible. It’s not just about the set pieces – it’s about being more clinical in front of goal, being more ruthless in our finishing, and being more solid at the back. We’re a team that’s still growing and developing, and it’s my responsibility to help us reach our full potential.
The Way Forward
So, what’s the way forward for us? It’s simple – we need to turn our current form into something meaningful. We need to take our good performances and turn them into results. We need to be more consistent, more clinical, and more ruthless. And most importantly, we need to be more resilient. We need to be able to overcome the setbacks and the obstacles that come our way. That’s the key to success, and that’s what I’m working on every day.
The Burden of Responsibility
As the manager, I know that I have a big responsibility on my shoulders. I know that people are looking at me to deliver results, to fix problems, and to bring success to the team. And I’m happy to do that. It’s not a burden that I shy away from – it’s something that I take pride in. I know that I have the support of the players, the staff, and the fans, and that gives me the confidence to keep working hard and to keep pushing for more.
The Music of Football
In the end, football is a game of ups and downs, of highs and lows. It’s a game that’s full of twists and turns, and it’s a game that can be unpredictable at times. But that’s what makes it so beautiful, so captivating, and so rewarding. And as the manager, I’m honored to be a part of it all, to be the conductor of this beautiful music that we call football.
