Closing Arguments on the Campaign Trail

This morning, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Trump are pushing for your vote. With just six days to go until the election, another busy day is on tap for the candidates.

Former President Trump is holding campaign rallies in the battleground states of North Carolina and Wisconsin. Vice President Harris will also be in North Carolina and Wisconsin, along with a stop in Pennsylvania. Harris delivered what’s being called her closing argument speech last night before a huge crowd on the ellipse in Washington. It’s the same location where Mr. Trump gave his speech on January 6th.

She framed the decision she thinks voters will need to make this election as more than just a choice between two parties and two different candidates.

"It is a choice about whether we have a country rooted in freedom for every American or ruled by chaos and division," she said.

Meanwhile, President Biden is under fire this morning after weighing in on those racist comments made by a comedian at a Trump rally in New York over the weekend regarding Puerto Rico.

"Just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage," Biden said. "There are good, decent, honorable people. The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters."

The White House is now doing damage control. The President later tweeted a clarification.

Voters across the country are continuing to take advantage of early voting. According to the latest data from TargetSmart and analyzed by the NBC News Decision Desk, more than 52 million people have already cast their ballots.

Breaking News: New Inventions of the Year

We’re getting a sneak peek at Time Magazine’s best inventions of the year. The list features 200 groundbreaking innovations that make our lives easier, smarter, and more fun. Editor-in-Chief Emma Barker joins us to talk about the top picks.

"We looked at sector categories first and then narrowed it down to what inventions had the biggest impact on people’s everyday lives, whether that’s from a consumer perspective or from a business and industry perspective," Barker said.

Some of the top inventions include the Firefly Petunia, which glows in the dark, and the Dyson On Track Headphones, which are both highly designed and fashionable. There are also medical applications, such as the Protein Predictor, which won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and Flumist, a nasal spray alternative to the flu shot.

The list is a way to highlight human innovation, not just products and shopable products, but also ideas and services that are making a difference.

"We’re looking at everything from huge companies to independent inventors who just came up with a great idea," Barker said. "It’s a really fun way to highlight human ingenuity."
