Decision 2024: First Look at Early Voting and Exit Poll Data
[Live Coverage Continues]
We’re now less than two hours away from the first polls closing, and we’ve got breaking news: our first look at exit poll data!
I’m Tom Yamas, and I’m here with Hye Jackson. We’re keeping you updated on the key issues driving voters across America. So, let’s dive in!
Exit Poll Data
We’ve got data from 10 states, including the seven key battlegrounds: Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada, plus Ohio and Texas. We’re also looking at Florida, with thousands of polling sites across the country.
Top Issues Matters
According to our exit poll data, the most important issue for voters is the state of democracy, with 36% saying it’s the top issue, followed by the economy with 30%. Abortion, immigration, and foreign policy round out the top four issues.
Who Do You Trust?
When it comes to handling the economy, 51% of voters trust President Trump, while 49% trust Kamala Harris. This is in line with our polling data, showing Trump closing the gap on the economy.
A Look at the Future of the Presidency
As we head into the night, let’s examine the potential paths for President Trump and Kamala Harris. For President Trump, his best chance to win is in the East Coast-style strategy, with Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia on the line. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris’ easiest path is to hold the "blue wall" of Michigan and Wisconsin, with a possible path also including Nevada and Arizona.
What If No One Reaches 270?
What if the outcome is 269-269? In that scenario, the Congress would essentially choose the President, with the House choosing the President and the Senate choosing the Vice President.
