European round-up: Barcelona beaten | Intriguing top six in Serie A | Difficult time for Marseille
European Football’s Major Talking Points: International Break Edition
As we take a break from the international football scene, I’m joined by Doogie to discuss the latest happenings across the European leagues. Let’s dive into the action!
Spain: La Liga
Real Madrid secured a much-needed 4-0 win over Osasuna, with Jude Bellingham scoring his first goal of the season. However, the win came at a cost, as Eddie Camara suffered an ACL injury, his second consecutive season-ending injury. Lucas Vasquez and Rodrigo also picked up injuries, leaving manager Carlo Ancelotti with a depleted squad.
Barcelona, on the other hand, slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Real Sociedad, failing to register a single shot on target. The loss leaves them just six points behind Real Madrid, with a game in hand.
Italy: Serie A
The Serie A title race is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent memory, with a mere two-point gap between first and sixth place. Napoli and Inter Milan drew 1-1, while Atlanta and Fiorentina continue to impress, with Atlanta winning their last six games and Fiorentina on a six-match unbeaten run.
Germany: Bundesliga
Borussia Dortmund’s inconsistent start to the season continued with a 3-1 defeat to Mainz. The team’s result have been all over the place, with four defeats in their last seven games. Manager Marco Rose is struggling to find consistency, with the team already 10 points behind Bayern Munich.
France: Ligue 1
Paris Saint-Germain continue to dominate the league, with Roberto Deschamps struggling to replicate their form in the Champions League. Neymar and Kylian Mbappé have been their usual prolific selves, while new signings Bradley Bara and William Pcho have made a huge impact.
