Is Pep Guardiola 'unsackable'? | Jamie Carragher discusses Manchester City's current form

Monday Night Football: Manchester City’s Struggles Continue

After a disappointing draw with Leicester City, Manchester City has found themselves in a critical situation in the Premier League. Despite being the current champions, the team seems to be struggling with numerous issues, particularly in their midfield.

Is It a Crisis?

When asked if Manchester City are in crisis, Jamie Carringham hesitates and says, "I wouldn’t use the word crisis, they’re still second in the Premier League," but acknowledges that they’ve been on an awful run. He believes the issues in midfield cannot be easily fixed with the current roster and that they’ll have to attack the transfer market in January to bolster their squad.

Problems in Midfield

Manchester City’s midfield problems stem from the age profile of their players. With Kovic and Gundogan over 30, Caringham questions whether they still have the pace and energy to compete at the top level. Even their defensive midfielder, Rodri, is not getting any younger, and Caringham thinks that Pep Guardiola will have to bring in new players to turn their season around.

No Crisis for Pep?

When asked if Pep Guardiola is unsackable, Caringham responded, "Yes, I think he is. No way Manchester City would sack him, even if they went two or three years without winning anything."

The Road Ahead

Should Manchester City lose their game against Liverpool at Anfield, Caringham thinks they’ll be out of the title race. Despite having 26 games remaining, he believes that four or five more losses would be a realistic outcome with their current form and age profile.

Moving Forward

The discussion moves to the Newcastle-West Ham matchup, with Caringham expecting an energetic performance from Newcastle and a tough night ahead for West Ham.

What’s in Store?

The show promises a closer look at West Ham’s struggles and how Manchester United’s system is both similar and different to ISU’s. Manchester City will also be featured prominently, with a segment discussing their midfield issues and aging players. Finally, special guest Theo Walcott joins the show to discuss his time at Arsenal, prompting a big chunk on Arsenal’s current season.
