Record-Breaking Traffic and Thanksgiving Storm Warnings
As Americans prepare to hit the roads and skies for the Thanksgiving holiday, a perfect storm of traffic and weather woes is brewing. The West Coast is experiencing record-breaking traffic, with AAA expecting upwards of 80 million Americans to travel for the holiday weekend.
Meanwhile, the Northeast is bracing for a powerful winter storm, with winter storm warnings and advisories in effect for parts of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Bill Karins, NBC News Meteorologist, warned that "this is going to be a difficult day to get to your destination" with heavy wet snow and strong winds expected.
Airport Delays and Flight Cancellations
As for air travel, flight delays and cancellations are widespread, with over 3,500 delays reported nationwide. Newark Liberty International Airport, a major hub for United Airlines, is particularly affected, with a ground delay lasting over an hour and a half. Houston Hobby International Airport, on the other hand, is experiencing normal operations.
Astronaut’s Thanksgiving in Space
As Americans gather around the dinner table, one astronaut, Sunni Williams, will be enjoying a unique Thanksgiving experience aboard the International Space Station. Williams and her fellow American, Butch Wilmore, are on a extended mission after problems with their spacecraft, Boeing Starliner, prevented them from returning to Earth as planned. Williams and Wilmore are set to return in February on a SpaceX Dragon.
Unlikely Thanksgiving Friendships
Finally, two individuals who accidentally became fast friends after a texting mistake eight years ago are now stronger than ever. Jamal Hinton and Wanda Dench, who exchanged texts meant for her grandson, have become like family, supporting each other through life’s ups and downs. This year, Jamal is hosting Wanda for Thanksgiving, a testament to the power of human connection and gratitude.
