President Trump Welcomes El Salvador Leader, Scandal Surrounds Deported Father’s Return
President Trump welcomed El Salvador’s President Naive Boulli to the Oval Office today, amidst controversy surrounding the deportation of a father of three, Kilar Abrego Garcia. The 41-year-old immigrant was deported to El Salvador, despite having a work permit in Maryland, and has since been held at a notorious prison.
Garcia’s family denies allegations that he is a member of MS-13, a violent gang the White House has designated as a foreign terrorist organization. The Department of Justice initially claimed that Garcia had been deported due to an administrative error, but the White House now argues that he is an illegal alien from El Salvador.
A New Twist in the Deportation Case
Last week, the Supreme Court ordered the Trump administration to facilitate Garcia’s return to the United States. However, the White House is interpreting this as simply providing a plane for El Salvador to return Garcia, rather than initiating his return themselves. President Trump claimed that the attorney general is investigating whether it is legal to deport US citizens to El Salvador if they were violent, saying "I don’t know what the laws are, we always have to obey the laws."
A Growing Crackdown on Foreign Students
Meanwhile, another Columbia University student, Mosen Madawi, a lawful permanent resident, was arrested and detained during his naturalization interview in Vermont. His lawyers are fighting his detention, and a federal judge has temporarily blocked his removal. Madawi’s arrest is part of a widening crackdown on foreign students who have protested on campus and are accused of supporting terrorists and anti-semitism.
President Trump’s Stance
In a statement, President Trump defended his administration’s actions, saying "We have millions of people that should not be in this country. I don’t know what the laws are, we always have to obey the laws, but I’m all for it because we can do things with the president for less money and have great security." The White House has made no official comment on the President’s views on the matter.
