Mirroring Strengths: The Fashion Philosophy of Pablo Gurang
For over 15 years, Pablo Gurang has been a force to be reckoned with in the fashion world. His designs have graced the runways, the Met Gala, and even the White House. Despite his impressive resume, Gurang’s philosophy is refreshingly humble: he doesn’t dress women to make them look beautiful, they already are. Instead, he mirrors their strengths, highlighting the unique qualities that make them who they are.
Gurang’s journey to success is a testament to the American dream. Born in Nepal, he was one of three siblings raised by a single mother who instilled in him a strong sense of self and determination. "My mother is my blueprint of who I am, who I am," he says. "She’s been someone who has loved me unconditionally."
Growing up, Gurang’s mother was his guiding light, always encouraging him to be himself. It was through her influence that he first discovered his passion for fashion. "My mom is the one who first put Michelle Obama on my radar," he recalls. Her suggestion came as his career was taking off, and Denise Richards, Jennifer Lopez, and numerous other celebrities were already in his portfolio.
In 2010, Gurang’s big break came when Michelle Obama herself wore one of his designs. The former first lady’s admiration for Gurang’s work was a moment of immense pride for his mother, who had always believed in his talent. "She says, ‘I am writing this down, so I remember it forever," Gurang recounts. ‘"To say we love Bravo is an understatement. We are so proud of him.’"
Gurang’s philosophy is more than just a tagline; it’s a true reflection of his approach to design. He takes the time to understand each woman’s unique qualities, her strengths, and her style. His goal is not to change or manipulate, but to enhance and celebrate who she already is. This approach has earned him a reputation as one of the most sought-after designers in the industry, with clients who appreciate his thoughtful and meticulous attention to detail.
As Gurang’s career has flourished, so too has his commitment to empowering women. He believes that by accepting and celebrating who they are, he can help them feel more confident and self-assured. "I don’t try to make them look beautiful," he says. "They already are." His legendary designs are more than just pretty clothes; they are a reflection of the women who wear them, and the strength and beauty they bring to the world.
For Gurang, his success is not just a personal achievement, but a testament to the power of the American dream. A humble immigrant with a big dream, he has proven that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. As his designs continue to make headlines, Gurang remains true to his philosophy, mirroring the strengths of the women he dresses, and celebrating the beauty that already exists within them.
