In Video: Billy Boston received rugby league's first knighthood | Rugby League Verdict
A HUGE WEEK FOR RUGBY LEAGUE
It has been a monumental week for rugby league, with two momentous events that have left fans and pundits alike in awe. On Saturday, Hulkr secured their first Challenge Cup win in an incredible 45 years, and on the same day, Wigan Warriors legend Billy Boston became the first rugby league player in the sport’s 130-year history to receive a knighthood.
HULK’S LLENCHAGE CUP HEROICS
The victory at Wembley was a stunning comeback by the Hulkr, who found themselves 4-0 down against Warrington Wolves with just minutes to go. However, they refused to give up, with Mikey Lewis making amends with an incredible conversion that sealed the win for the underdogs. Jez Littton, Hulkr’s hooker, revealed in an exclusive interview on the Rugby League Verdict that the team never doubted themselves, even when it seemed like it was slipping through their fingers.
"We always had a chance because we’re a team that backs our defense," Littton said. "We ended up getting a couple of attacking sets and then it was history." Littton also praised Mikey Lewis, saying that he was just 10 yards from the bench as he kicked the winning conversion. "When he kicked the goal and then I saw the fans go crazy in the background, I just had goosebumps," he said.
BILLY BOSTON KNOCKS DOWN A BARRIER FOR RUGBY LEAGUE
Yesterday, Wigan Warriors legend Billy Boston became the first rugby league player to be awarded a knighthood. Boston’s achievements on and off the field have earned him widespread recognition, and his nomination was widely supported. Rugby League Verdict’s John Wilin joined the show to discuss Boston’s historic honor. "Billy Boston was a true trailblazer who overcame prejudice to represent Great Britain and open the door to a more diverse game," Wilin said. "He has left a truly enduring legacy, and I believe that this knighthood is long overdue."
REETBACK TO EARTH FOR HULK
As Hulkr celebrate their historic win, they now face a challenge to quickly get back to earth and focus on their Super League campaign. According to John Wilin, "Hulk needs to switch their focus back to the league now and get back on task quickly because they’ve got more trophies to win this year if they knuckle down for the next two or three months."
WOLFIE IN LIMELIGHT AGAIN
In other news, Warrington’s mascot Wolfie has been warned for provoking the crowd during a recent Super League game. The mascot was accused of attempting to rile up the home crowd after a penalty was given against the Wolves.
