The events of this morning began at around 2:00 a.m. when an initial call was made to the Champlin police department, reporting a shooting at a residence. Police responded promptly and were dealing with the situation when a second call was received, reporting a shooting at the home of Speaker Hortman.

Brooklyn Park police officers responded to the scene and encountered the perpetrator, who opened fire, exchanging gunfire with the officers. The individual was able to escape during the exchange, but law enforcement is engaged in an active manhunt to apprehend the suspect.
