One person, a Democrat, explains: "I think our army kind of made it possible for us to have a democracy without the army, we’d be controlled by the British government." Interestingly, many of the individuals I’ve spoken to believe that this event is not about honoring any particular individual, including President Trump. Rather, it’s a celebration of the military as a whole. "I don’t see this event in any way honoring Trump specifically," one person says. "I think it’s about honoring the military, and showing our appreciation for their service." This sentiment is shared by many, including those who are opposed to some of Trump’s policies.

Despite the overwhelming sense of unity, there are also signs and voices that support the President. Tons of people wear hats adorned with the "Make America Great Again" logo, and some have expressed signs that read "Happy Birthday, President Trump" – a coincidence, as the President’s birthday falls on today as well.
