Heroic Feat Caught on Camera
Surveillance video obtained by NBC News shows Rafael Valdez, a local dock worker, jumping into the water to rescue two women trapped inside a pickup truck that crashed into the Miami River.
Valdez Injured in Dramatic Rescue
The incident occurred when a pickup truck sped off the dock and crashed into a tree and a boat on the Miami River. Valdez dove into the water and rescued the women, but suffered 18 stitches from a cut in the process.
Action Hero or Just a Good Samaritan?
Maiicio Flores, a local business owner who witnessed the crash, stated that Valdez “would have done the same” if he were in his shoes. The city of Miami is now praising Valdez’ actions, urging people to think twice before recklessness behind the wheel.
Two Women Rescued Unharmed
The two employees driving the pickup truck were uninjured and shaken but otherwise okay, as reported by NBC News. The women have they are grateful for Valdez’ heroism. “I’m happy they’re okay… be careful driving,” said Valdez during an interview.
Investigation Underway
The city of Miami has told NBC News that the two employees were driving the pickup truck and that the incident is currently under investigation by the Miami Police Department.
