Tottenham Manager Thomas Reflects on Season So Far: Ups and Downs
As the halfway mark of the season approaches, Tottenham manager Thomas has reflected on the highs and lows of his first season at the helm. Despite the challenges of adapting to a new club and leading his team in the Premier League and Champions League, Thomas remains optimistic about the season’s trajectory.
Settling into a New Club
When asked about settling into his new role, Thomas admitted that it had been a busy and demanding period. “I would say so, yeah. It goes quick. You know, and you have so much on your head, so much to do, so much to prepare, but um it’s been good.” He credited the people around him at the club for making the transition easier.
Expectations and Style of Play
Thomas acknowledged that adapting to the different expectations at Tottenham, compared to Brentford, had been a challenge. However, he felt that his team had adapted well, praising the players for their improvement. “I think we’ve adapted yeah quite well. Um it was easy to walk into the club. Um the people around it or in the club made it made that easy.”
Player Adapation to Style of Play
Regarding the players’ adaptation to his style of play, Thomas said, “I think it’s it’s step by step and um you we do it while we are also playing every other day. So there’s not many training days to do it, but of course there’s walkthroughs and small bits… I would say it’s getting getting better and better.”
Rotating the Squad
Thomas acknowledged the difficulty of rotating his squad due to injuries and the congested schedule. “I think that’s that’s one of the challenges. Um you need to rotate uh some players to keep freshness um to keep uh players ready uh constantly.”
Handling Setbacks
When discussing the recent loss to Nottingham Forest, Thomas admitted that it had been a “punch in the face”. He emphasized the importance of maintaining energy levels and pushing through setbacks. “They need to push through and I think this was a I think it’s the only mistake we made like that the whole season.”
Looking Ahead to Liverpool
Ahead of the upcoming match against Liverpool, Thomas praised the champions’ form and talent. He emphasized the importance of having a top performance and getting a result against one of the top teams in the league.
Javi Simmons’ Form
Thomas expressed his happiness with Javi Simmons’ recent form, praising his performances in the last two matches. “I’m I’m really happy with his two games against um Brentford and Slavia Prague. I think that was really promising.”
Pressure on New Players
Regarding the pressure on new players, Thomas emphasized the importance of focusing on themselves and ignoring external expectations. “Of course, there’s always pressure. Uh no matter where you are what you do there’s always pressure so I think most important is to focus on yourself.”
Injury Updates
Thomas provided updates on the injured players, revealing that Salanki is making progress and could be involved in the squad soon.
