Plan to call off all kinds of auctions

Congestion threatens public health

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 16: According to informed sources, the concerned authorities are studying the cancellation of auctions in sheep, and fruits and vegetables markets and other auctions, in implementation of the Ministry of Health’s preventive instructions to combat the spread of COVID-19, reports Al-Anba daily.

This step was considered after the Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued a decision to stop public auctions in the fish markets and replace them with selling through quota system, either in stalls or parallel and commercial markets and consumer cooperative societies, with a quotation for the fish sold.

The sources said committees formed from many of the concerned parties met and discussed measures that may be taken to prevent congestion that may result in risks to public health.

They indicated that the concerned authorities are studying these decisions in a manner that does not affect the availability of products or their prices, and aim to ensure that the buying and selling processes proceed according to the regulatory processes in line with health procedures, taking into account the health of citizens and residents, and at the same time ensuring the demand and supply processes are not affected as well as the products.
